Biography

By now you've stumbled upon my blog, have already Googled "Caryatid", and have come to one of three conclusions about me based on the fact that I chose this metaphor for this blog. You likely think that I fancy myself: 1) a modern day Rosie the Riveter for choosing a figure of a woman who is literally a pillar of strength; 2) a tragic heroine for choosing something that symbolizes the enslaved women of Caryae; or 3) a stuffy and pretentious nerd; why else would I choose some obscure figure from Greek architecture?

The truth is that I'm a melange of all three of these things, along with a dash of sass and sophistication for good measure.

If you'd like to know the stats about moi, here they are: I graduated from Smith College with a B.A. in Government. I'm currently working for the Feds in Wash DC, but I aspire to do some sort of work that allows me to support women in developing countries who wish to live healthy and independent lives, free to make their own decisions about their bodies, their work, and their families. At the moment, I'm in the slow and arduous process of returning to my first love, the gauntelet that is the study of medicine, and in 20-some-odd years can see myself working for an organization like Doctors Without Borders.

FYI, that's a Chupa Chup lollipop I'm holding up to my lips in that picture. Jeez Louise, you people can make anything seem dirty.
